Square and Gulf Waterfront
The character of the Central Area of Cheboksary has changed a lot over time. Regardless of their socioeconomic development, the urban pattern has been strongly conditioned in the years following the great Volga River restructuration as hidroelectric infrastructure. The river level change as consequence of dams, originated a “re-mapping” of the urban area, which in the case of Cheboksary is evidenced more than in other cities with the appearance of “central gulf.”
This space, even if it was the core of the central area, it was just as an empty center. The appearance of the water gives to this empty area the character of morphological protagonist, and this circumstance should have generated a new urbanity. The operation of the central gulf remained only a brilliant infrastructure operation. Once the infrastructure was completed, it was not developed the urban potential that this new infrastructure carried to the area.
With the exception of the Red Square, the intervention area of the project is located primarily on the west side of the Gulf, proposing a new type of urban fabric located right in front of the Historical core.
